Do we have to have a piano in our home for our child to start lessons?
The student has to have a piano or an acceptable keyboard in their home. A good piano is my instrument of choice, but a keyboard can get them started. In fact, a good keyboard is better than an old piano in disrepair. If the student shows a real interest in music and they want to continue, then the parents can think about upgrading to a piano. Contact me for more information about what to look for in a keyboard.
What is the best age to start piano lessons? My child is three-years-old. Is that too young?
Younger children can learn musical concepts, such as loud and soft, fast and slow, etc. and they can develop an early love of being involved with music. That being said, I would not recommend formal piano lessons to begin until around the age of six. At this age, they have the ability to focus and also have developed the fine motor skills necessary for playing the piano.
My daughter is already a gifted musician but is applying for admission to a prestigious music school. Can you help her prepare for that?
Yes, I am a coach for students who are entering competitions or preparing to audition for a scholarship or entrance into a music school. I can provide coaching, collaboration, and accompaniment.
I love to play my piano but I’ve noticed that it just doesn’t sound as good as it used to. Can you help me?
The services I offer include standard tuning, pitch raises, voicing and regulation work, and in-home repair, such as fixing sticky keys or broken strings. Call me and let me see what I can do to help get the music flowing again!
My piano was damaged in a recent flood, Can you help me get a repair estimate for my insurance?
I do not offer insurance consultations or evaluations; however, I can help people find a qualified person in your area for that. Please contact me.
I inherited my grandmother’s old piano. It had been sitting in a barn for a long time and has some fairly significant damage. Do you offer piano restoration services?
I do not do piano restorations; however, I can help people find a qualified person in your area for that. Please contact me.
